Investing in our people

William, a Lancaster University graduate who joined Like Technologies after taking part in a Tech Lancaster BootCamp has further developed his skill set and is now a Certified IPC Specialist meaning he can now do assembly work here in our workshop, in addition to the support he provides within our IS team. We recently asked him some questions about life at work.

  1. How has Like Technologies aided or expanded on your academic achievements? Working at Like Technologies has given me the space to develop my skills further to support my hybrid role as an IS Engineer and occasional workshop assistant/technician.
  1. Do you feel you have gained valuable skills during your time here? Yes, I’ve gained experience in a myriad of troubleshooting processes and have definitely improved my electrical assembly and hardware skills on the job.
  1. What do you think are the benefits of working within a small business like Like Technologies? The flexibility and variance of the role in a small business has offered space for further development during the work.
  1. What are the best things about Like Technologies? The flexibility of the role at Like Technologies and the range of work is interesting, and the admin team doing an amazing job organising work events too!
  1. How would you sum up your experience at Like Technologies so far? Interesting and insightful, especially working with online computing equipment and testing various basic electrical systems, I’ve developed a better engineering discipline and approach to technical problems.

We invest in our people and have recently spent time adapting our recruitment process, holding an open day for people who are looking to join, or re-join, the electronics industry. Speaking about the idea, Sally and Melvin from the workshop said;

“We wanted to try a different way of recruiting for the workshop by altering how we talk about the role in our job adverts and inviting people in for a tour of our building, a relaxed two-way conversation and practical session. The feedback from the potential employees has been positive, encouraging us to consider this format for all opportunities within the business.”

We’re always keen to hear from skilled Electronics Engineers and Electronics Technicians that could join us in the workshop and onsite, to help us provide vital support to operators of industrial control systems.
