Future Proof Framework

Like Technologies were asked to contribute to an article for Operations Engineer. Talking alongside Tim Elliot from Allan Webb, we were asked about how a how a tailored approach based on real- world experience can help engineering operators outrun obsolescence.

A considerable proportion of our obsolescence management (OM) work is in the power generation sector and you’ll agree that the challenge in this industry is particularly acute because many critical control systems were designed, built and commissioned in the 1970s-1990s but are still supporting assets that need to operate safely and reliably today.

At Like Technologies, we add value by feeding practical, real-world obsolescence experience back into the conversation with our clients. We see what happens when equipment has been in service for decades, when OEM support disappears, when documentation is incomplete, or when a component-level issue threatens the ongoing supportability of a much larger system. We help our clients to think more carefully about maintainability, documentation, future support, component availability and the value of planning for repair, refurbishment or like-for-like replacement over the full lifecycle of an asset.”
