Fundraising for CancerCare

Last month we held our charity quiz night to raise money for CancerCare. The third one we’ve organised, this year Morecambe FC kindly donated the space and we welcomed teams from Lancaster University, Lancaster and Morecambe College, Teleplan Forsberg, First Digital Media, Lancaster and Morecambe Chamber of Commerce, local pub quiz teams and CancerCare supporters.

The Like Technologies team donated raffle prizes and CancerCare came along to help collect donations and let the room know about the support they provide to families affected by cancer and bereavement across the Morecambe Bay area.

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses and individuals, we raised £1810 on the night. This takes our fundraising total to £4041 and we’re aiming to reach £5000 by the end of the year.

The Morecambe Bay area has the highest rate of common cancers compared with the average rates for the whole North West or even England according to researchers at Lancaster University. The three types of cancer which are higher in the Morecambe Bay area are breast, bowel and urological – which includes prostate, kidney, bladder, testicular and penile cancers.

In 2024, CancerCare helped 1,975 people across Morecambe Bay, provided 16,670 hours of therapy and estimate it will cost £1,900,000 to continue run their four centres in Lancaster, Morecambe, Kendal and Barrow over the next 12 months.
